OMICRON VARIANT: UK MOVES TO “PLAN B”
The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson today ordered British citizens to start working from home if possible, mandatory mask wearing in public spaces and the introduction of “Covid passports.”
At the No 10 Downing Street press conference, Mr Johnson spelt out the rules for England and Wales.
Work from home as from Monday if possible.
Mandatory mask wear in all public spaces except when eating, drinking, singing or exercising.
“Covid passports” would come into force by the end of next week. The NHS Covid Pass will be mandatory for night club entry and venues where the crowd is over 500. Outdoor venues with more than 4000 people and any venue with more than 10,000 people.
For anybody in contact with carriers of the Omicron variant daily tests and isolation will be required.
The Prime Minister said all these new stringent measures were necessary because infections were doubling every three days and at present 568 known cases with many cases not reported.
The press conference comes after a really bad day. Johnson’s press secretary Allegra Stratton after joking about “wine and cheese” at a Christmas party that was held at No 10 last year when the country was in lockdown.
