Russian Foreign Ministry lays down “red line”

The Russian Foreign Ministry on Thursday lay down its “red lines” to the United States and its North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) partners that they risk being party to the conflict if they supply longer range missiles to Kiev.

“Should Washington decide to supply longer-range missiles to Kiev, by doing so it will cross a red line and become a direct party to the conflict. Under such a scenario, we will be forced to respond appropriately,”  Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a news briefing on Thursday.

Zakharova warned that Russia reserved the right to defend its territory “by all available means.”

“Possible supplies of missiles to the Kiev regime are identical to a situation in which European countries might host US-made ground-launched missiles, previously banned under the treaty on intermediate and shorter-range missiles, capable of hitting targets on Russian territory,” Zakharova added.

Meanwhile a village Mayorsk in the Donetsk People’s Republic was liberated by troops of the DPR and LPR, with fire support from the Russian Armed Forces as heavy infantry clashes continued in the DPR cities of Soledar, Artyomovsk, Avdiivka and Maryinka.

Kiev says it recaptured more than 8,000 sq km (3000 sq miles), nearly equivalent to the size of the island of Cyprus. The speed of the advance has lifted Ukrainian morale, pleased Western backers who have provided arms, intelligence and training, and raised hopes of further significant gains before the winter sets in.

Serhiy Gaidai, governor of Ukraine’s eastern Luhansk region, said it would still be a tough fight to wrest control of his region back from Russia, which recognises it as an independent state controlled by separatists.

The Russian military leadership has come under heavy criticism over the regrouping in the Kharkiv region with Kremlin hardliners calling for strategic air strikes on government facilities in Kiev including the presidential palace. the security service and defence headquarters.
