Russia introduces new service pistol that rivals the best selling Glock 9mm pistol
The Central Research Institute of Precision Machine-Building (TsNIITochMash, part of the Kalashnikov gunmaker within the state tech corporation Rostec) has delivered the first batch of cartridges for top-notch 6P72 Udav self-loading pistols to Russian troops, the Kalashnikov press office announced on Tuesday.
“TsNIITochMash has delivered the first batch of ammunition for the new 9mm 6P72 self-loading pistol. The delivery batch includes 9mm rounds with enhanced piercing capacity (the 7N42 index) and 9mm cartridges with reduced bullet velocity (the 7U4 index),” the press office said in a statement.
It was reported in August, that the third pilot batch of Udav pistols was ready for its delivery to Russian troops. It was also revealed that documents on accepting the state-of-the-art pistol for service had not yet been signed.
A pilot batch is an industrial consignment rolled out to confirm the readiness of particular items for their production.
The Udav, developed by TsNIITochMash, in its latest design incorporates original solutions that give it some advantages over the CZ, Glock, Walther, Colt and other pistols.
Its patented technologies include the magazine’s design as an indicator of the number of rounds, which helps determine a fully-loaded magazine both visually and tactually. Besides, the pistol’s equipment set includes a silencer with a replaceable heat-absorbing module and two types of rounds with added piercing capacity and the bullet’s reduced speed.
The Udav has an effective firing range of 100 meters. The pistol is capable of piercing individual armor vests (including fabric vests) and Type II helmets at a distance of up to 75 meters. The Udav can operate within a temperature range of minus 50 degrees to plus 50 degrees Celsius.
