Nigeria’s Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi releases long awaited political manifesto
The wait is over. Nigeria’s Labour Party (LP) released its much anticipated political manifesto for the 2023 elections on Sunday.
“I have the honour to present our 72-page Manifesto, titled, “It’s POssible: Our Pact with Nigerians.” This Manifesto, its overarching and visionary policy planks, lay out our mission focus and mandate for securing, uniting and making Nigeria productive.” The party’s presidential candidate Peter Obi announced in a tweet. The 72 page document emblazoned with the national colours was a complete roadmap to a new Nigeria.
“Our vision is a secure, united and prosperous Nigeria that works for everyone and that realises the hope of black people of the world as a city on the hill.” The manifesto stated.
The LP promised to run a government of national unity irrespective of political affiliations.”We will run a government of
national unity, bringing together for the task at hand, all competent, honest, and diligent Nigerians, irrespective of their political
affiliations.”
“The new Nigeria we build will be truly one nation bound in freedom, peace and unity”where peace and justice shall reign.”
Obi, 61, made a commitment to Nigerians if he wins the 2023 presidential elections to be held in February 2023 by listing seven priority areas his administration will look into once they are sworn into office on Democracy Day. He plans to overhaul the security architecture so as to put an end to banditry and insurgency tormenting the country.
The economy will shift to a consumption to production model with emphasis on commercial farming and a export driven industrialisation which will lift Nigeria out of chronic poverty. The polity will be restructured by implementing effective legal and institutional reforms that will entrench the rule of law, fight corruption, reduce cost of governance and create a honest and efficient civil service. He pledged.
“Leapfrog Nigeria into the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR), through the application of scientific and technological innovations to create a digital economy. Build expansive and world-class infrastructure for efficient power supply, rail, road and air transportation, and pipeline network.” The manifesto added.
It stated that through integrated public-private partnerships, and entrepreneurial public sector governance all these goals will be achieved. The human capital of Nigeria which is the youths will be enhanced for productivity and global competitiveness. The Obi administration also promised to invest in world class scholarship and research for Nigerian universities. Quality healthcare and entrepreneur education.
The LP presidential candidate also promised to conduct a robust afro-centric foreign policy that protects the rights of Nigerian citizens abroad, advances the economic interests of Nigerians and Nigerian businesses in a rapidly changing world.
Commenting on the manifesto in a tweet the LP vice-presidential candidate Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed tweeted.
“You cannot read @PeterObi and Datti Manifesto and not shed tears. Nigerians have gone through so much, and to think that we have so much resources to live the life you see on that manifesto #ItsPOssible”.
