Nigerian presidential candidate Omoleye Sowore claims to be a revolutionary intent on changing the Nigerian political landscape but in secret he works for the US Central Intelligence Agency
Self proclaimed revolutionary activist Omoleye Sowore is running for the second time to be President of Nigeria under his platform the African Action Congress (AAC). In 2015, his CIA funded online publication Sahara Reporters a thorn in the flesh of the Goodluck Jonathan administration helped in bringing back General Muhammadu Buhari to power with vicious propaganda. Sowore has connections with Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the June 12 campaign in the 1990s. Sowore could be seen celebrating Buhari’s electoral victory which after eight years turned out to be the worst administration in the history of Nigeria. Was it not Buhari failures in his first term that made Sowore decide to run for President himself? Isn’t the continuity of Buhari’s failures till that further convinced Sowore to run a second time? Revolutionary thinking indeed.
You said CIA funded his platform. Yes, before I get to that let’s look at Sowore’s background. From what I gathered from online sources from Wikipedia to the New York Times we will kindly point out why Sowore is a fraud and a CIA lackey not fit to be President of Nigeria or a ward councillor in his hometown.
There are no records of him attending secondary school but his education history started when he attended the University of Lagos from 1992 to 1998 studying Geography and claims to be the student union president in 1992. In 1992, the student union president was a guy with the nick name Red Drum if memory serves me right.
He claims to have participated in the June 12 anti democratic struggle but no details of how he paid his school fees and bills while at university. Was he using student union dues to survive since he said his parents were poor fishermen? We will never know but meanwhile he got a plane ticket to New York telling US Embassy officials in Lagos that he was tortured, imprisoned and expelled from university due to his pro democracy activities. Sowore’s visa application was vetted by the US Embassy Political Officer in Lagos the diplomatic cover title for the CIA station chief in country.
Remember the end of the cold war and President George Bush Snr proclaimed a “new world order” of freedom, democracy and human rights?
Sowore took the opportunity he is an opportunist isn’t he? At the American peace conference in 1999, fellow activists advised him to seek treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) due to the torture and imprisonment he suffered at the hands of the Nigerian military government. One activist got him the connections he needed at the Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Torture, an initiative that helps victims rebuild their physical and mental health. He claims he wanted to return to Nigeria. Really?!? After a visit to God’s own country no sane person from Africa would want to go back given the opportunity.
Well the doctors helped him in getting political asylum as he was under psychiatric treatment. Future president of Nigeria now susceptible to blackmail by US intelligence they have access to his health records. Are Africans STUPID? The New York Times said he enrolled at Colombia University as a graduate student and gained a Masters degree in Public Administration.
He told the New York Times in 2011 that his love for the media started in Nigeria when newspapers that were owned by the government and oligarchs could print what they wanted. Really? The only worthwhile publication in Nigeria was Newswatch whose founder and editor was killed in a mysterious letter bomb linked to the Nigerian military. After 1986 there was no press just government mouth pieces and oligarch owned media pursuing various ethnic and selfish agendas.
Under the guise of advancing press freedom, serving Nigerians news from the diaspora, he set up Sahara Reporters with a partner Jonathan Elendu whom he later fell out with in 2004. Meanwhile he got married to an American called Opeyemi a New Jersey resident with two kids. The future first lady is an American with zero experience of what it means to be a low class citizen of Nigeria.
Where did he get the funds to start up Sahara Reporters? Which was nothing more than an online tabloid exposing the lives of corrupt politicians and celebrities which further glamorises the corrupt lifestyle; fast cars, champagne, fast girls and fast money in Nigeria. Despite all the exposure of their corrupt lifestyles it just got worse. The Nigerian psyche is wired to accept any junk from America from second hand clothes to second hand American specification cars. Sahara Reporters is just that. The New York Times confirmed Sahara Reporters got funding from the Ford Foundation between 2008 and 2019 amounting to $2 MILLION because it works to promote transparency and accountability through its stories on corruption, human rights abuses, and other political misconduct. the ingredients US policy says is essential for “regime change.” That is regimes that do not toe the American line. The rest are ok even if they are riddled with human right abuses and corruption.
The evil nexus between the Ford Foundation a supposedly philanthropic organisation and the CIA has been exposed in the book. Who Paid the Piper? The CIA and the Cultural Cold War in which the author asserts that the CIA uses philanthropic organisations to funnel large sums of money to Agency projects without the recipients being made aware.
A 1976 US Congressional investigation revealed that since the early 1950s, 50% of the grants made in the field of international activities by the principal foundations like Ford were funded by the CIA.
The CIA considers foundations such as Ford Foundation (FF) “The best and most plausible kind of funding cover”. The collaboration of respectable and prestigious foundations, according to one former CIA operative, allowed the agency to fund “a seemingly limitless range of covert action programs affecting Youth groups, Labour unions, Universities, Media publishing houses and Other private institutions”. The Ford-CIA connection is a deliberate, conscious joint effort to strengthen US imperial economic and cultural hegemony over other countries.
It is very important for Nigerian voters to know that the Ford Foundation will not fund any anti American agenda except willing tools like Sahara Reporters that could be used to influence audiences in target countries for solely American interests. Lest we forget the AAC presidential candidate is still listed as a resident of New Jersey USA.
