General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God saying “president-elect” will fix Nigeria leaves Christian community polarised
The Nigerian Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) General Overseer Pastor Enoch Adeboye stated on Sunday, “President-Elect” Bola Tinubu will fix Nigeria in a letter to RCCG faithful. Tinubu’s”victory” is currently being contested in the courts.
His remarks has polarised the Christian community with many saying he was backing Tinubu based on the fact that the president elect is Yoruba and majority of the RCCG community are Yorubas from south west Nigeria.
On Monday, the Presidential Elections Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) sitting in Abuja began hearing petitions from the opposition that Tinubu did not win the election based on substantial evidence.
On Sunday at the monthly thanksgiving service at the RCCG Headquarters, Throne of Grace, in a letter addressed to RCCG Christians, Adeboye, urged Tinubu, to fulfil Nigerians’ dream of a brand new nation, which they would be proud of.
He said that the incoming administration, in addition to fulfilling the promises made during its campaign, should also fix all the problems hindering the peace and progress of the country.
His speech which was delivered by Pastor Dele Balogun, special assistant to the General Overseer was read in all RCCG churches worldwide to garner spiritual support for Tinubu.
“Let us pray for the incoming government that God will support it and give it the Grace to do the right thing.
“Thank God the President-elect has promised to fix Nigeria. If God helps him, Nigeria will prosper in his hands,” he said.
He, therefore, urged the youths to do away with cultism and inordinate ambition.
The RCCG has been accused of being the religious wing of the ruling party, counting the Vice-President Yemi Osibanjo and the wife of Tinubu Pastor Remi Tinubu as members of the ethnic church whose founder was Yoruba.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with 8,794,726 votes winner of the presidential election that was fraught with electoral violence, voter intimidation, suppression, results manipulation and perjury. Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second with 6,984,520 votes and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) was third with 6,101,533 votes.
Not satisfied with the declaration of INEC, Atiku, Obi, and other candidates proceeded to the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to dismiss Tinubu’s victory.
Meanwhile, the presiding Justice at the Presidential election petition, Haruna Simon Tsammani, has warned lawyers against making sensational comments even as the tribunal has adjourned its sitting to Wednesday, May 10.
