Igbo separatists give Nigerian President ultimatum to release separatist leader from state security detention or face two weeks economic disruption

Finland based self styled Prime Minister of the Biafran Republic Government in exile(BRGIE), Simon Ekpa issued an ultimatum to President Bola Tinubu, over the release of the Igbo separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu who is being held by the State Security Service (DSS).

Ekpa in a press statement released, Tuesday mandated a two week economic disruption if Tinubu who is Yoruba does not release the detained separatist leader.

He said the BRGIE and the Biafran Republic Government in the Homeland (BRGIH) has mandated a sit at home civil disobedience starting 31st of July to 14th of August 2023.

He stated the reasons for the civil disobedience.

“The immediate and unconditional release of IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who remains illegally detained at the DSS dungeon.“

“In preparation for “Biafra’s self-referendum and to further put the world on notice that Biafrans are taking their future into their own hands.“

“To invalidate the illegitimacy of those who parade themselves as Nigeria’s representatives within Biafran territory.“

“The sit at home will therefore take place in the following order: Monday, 31 July, 2023 to Friday, 4 August 2023 and there will be total lockdown in Biafraland.”

He urged market leaders to adhere to the sit at home and warned oil exploration companies to stop extracting Biafran oil during the two weeks.

He warned that failure to adhere to the two week sit at home will “attract the anger of the Biafran people.”

The restive south eastern region suffered a one week disruption of business activities which was extended by three days. Many Igbos complied with the BRGIE directive despite the presence of federal troops.

Last weekend, gunmen stormed a popular junction in Akwakuma, Owerri North Council, Imo state killing a tricycle operator and a passer-by, causing traders and motorists to run for cover.

BRGIE and BRGH both condemned the killing and blamed it on the Nigerian government.
